ClamWin is an antivirus application for Windows operating system. It was developed by ClamWin Pty Ltd and it serves as the graphical user interface for the Clam Antivirus (ClamAV) program. ClamAV is an antivirus program that only runs from a command line. As such, it requires a third party GUI to be able to access its functionalities. ClamWin provides this interface for ClamAV.

The program is not only capable of scanning files and folders. It can also be used to scan the system’s memory. However, scanning of files and folders can only be done manually. The program does not offer on-access scanning functions. It also features a scanning scheduler, which allows users to specify a defined time to run scans. It also offers automatic updates on its virus database. If the virus database is outdated, it prompts the user and asks whether to update the database or not. It also provides notifications for new updates and upgrades on the program. Aside from this, ClamWin is integrated with Microsoft Outlook and Windows Explorer. The Microsoft Outlook integration feature is capable of deleting virus-infected email attachments without user intervention.

Extending the program’s functions can also be done by installing ClamWin plug-ins. There is a ClamWin plug-in for Mozilla Firefox allowing the program to scan files downloaded from the browser.
