IGI 2: Covert Strike is a video game developed by Innerloop Studios and released by Codemasters in March 2003. This video game features a stealth-based first person shooter type of game play where players focus on minimizing enemy contact by hiding, disguising oneself, and taking out enemies silently. The video game’s first person shooter aspect allows the player to engage enemies in ranged weapons combat in a first person perspective. IGI 2: Covert Strike simulates a covert operation, a military tactic that emphasizes stealth and secrecy. Players are provided with specialized weapons and equipment that enable them to maintain stealth in the game. Alerting the enemy would cause the mission fail or to be more difficult by heightened enemy presence. In IGI 2: Covert Strike, players are equipped with binoculars, thermal goggles, lock picks, safe crackers, CR-4 explosives, and a laser designator to direct air strikes. For weapons, users get to use suppressed firearms for added stealth. Users are equipped with various weapons such as pistols, submachine guns, assault rifles, and sniper rifles. In addition to these, players are also equipped with a knife used in silent kills.
IGI 2: Covert Strike is set in the modern period where players take control of agent David Jones of a fictional government agency called the IGI or Institute of Geotactical Intelligence. Agent David Jones’ mission is to locate and retrieve stolen EMP chips that are linked to a Chinese general. The video game’s story mission contains 20 story missions with cut scenes in between missions. Players are taken into different environments such as indoor, outdoor, urban, and rural environments. Players must practice caution in order to avoid enemies, and quick reaction in fighting a large number of enemies.
