OpenTTD is a business simulation game geared towards urban planning, developed by OpenTTD Development Team in October 2012. The player’s objective is to earn money by land, water, and air transportation of passengers and goods. OpenTTD may be played singly or on multi-player mode. For multiplayer mode, OpenTTD features internet multiplayer mode and LAN multiplayer, which can be cooperative or competitive. OpenTTD hosts multiplayer mode for up to 255 players.
OpenTTD starts off with merely roads connecting towns. The gameplay revolves around the creation of a transportation network over the world map. OpenTTD vehicles available are trucks, buses, ships, trains, and aeroplanes. Every successful delivery conducted by a vehicle generates income that can in turn be used for building infrastructure like rails, airports and stations, and buy more vehicles. Users may also interact with the local topography via the local authorities. Vehicles get their cargoes from industries or towns, which are scattered, all over the map. Coal comes from industries while passengers and mail come from towns. The income garnered from deliveries depends on the quantity of cargo, which in turn is dependent on the quality, and size of the vehicle used for the delivery. Speed of delivery will also matter as in the case of perishable goods to be delivered.
OpenTTD is set from years 1950 to 2050. The objective is to garner the highest performance rating over that period.
