Hitman: Contracts is the third installment in the Hitman game series created by IO Interactive and distributed by Eidos Interactive. It was initially released on April 20, 2004 in North America. In the game, the player takes the role of Agent 47, a hit man sent to eliminate certain targets. The game takes a new turn as Agent 47 now becomes the hunted. The story begins with Agent 47 having flashbacks on his previous missions while a corrupt French inspector tries to kill him. As the game progresses, the story of Agent 47 will start to unfold.
Like other Hitman games, Contracts’ gameplay revolves around Agent 47 and his missions to eliminate targets. However, the missions in this game are portrayed through 47’s flashbacks. There are a total of 12 missions in the game. The player can use a wide range of melee and firearm weapons. The game encourages player to take a trickier and stealth strategy. However, a violent approach is also possible. As the player advances in the game, different armaments can be collected. These armaments can be used in other missions. Aside from a straightforward approach in killing targets, the player can also use subtle ways in killing hits such as using poising or setting up an “accident”.
The player’s performance is rated based on different aspects such as number of NPCs killed, shots fired and more. The highest rank is Silent Assassin and the lowest rank is Mass Murderer. Players can also use disguises to progress in the game.
