Adobe Device Central CS5.5 is the final release of the Device Central program published and created by Adobe Systems, Inc. Development of this program has been officially discontinued on April 23, 2012. The program is used for testing, creating, and previewing mobile content. Aside from being a component of CS5.5, it is also included as part of certain standalone Adobe programs (i.e. Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Premiere Pro, After Effects, and more).
New to the CS5.5 version is Adobe Fireworks support. This feature enables developers to design mobile content using Adobe Fireworks and preview the created content via Device Central. Developers may even switch from and to Device Central for testing. Support for Adobe Captivate is available in the CS5.5 version as well. With this feature, developers can choose a mobile device then run a test for Adobe Captivate allowing developers to choose the most appropriate preset screen sizes and use project templates. The CS5.5 version provides advanced device input emulation, too. It has support for advanced input abilities including accelerometer, geolocation, and multi-touch emulation. Another added feature is the HTML Rendering functionality. This feature enables developers to incorporate a browser engine so it can be displayed on mobile web pages.
Other added features in Device Central CS5.5 include the following:
• Flash/Flash Lite support
• ACtionScript 3.0 debugging
• Workspace Area
• Sharing Device Profiles, Profile Commenting, and Profile Rating
• Device Library, Profile Filters, and Network Connections
