BitPim is a program developed by Roger Binns that was released in June 2007. This program enables users to manage data from their mobile phone in their computer. BitPim is used to transfer, save, backup, and delete mobile phone content such as messages, contacts, and memos. Aside from these, users can use this program to transfer and synchronize multimedia files such as photos, videos, and music files from the user’s mobile phone into the computer. In order to use BitPim, users must first install the program in their computer then plug in the mobile phone’s cable connector to their computer. BitPim would then take a moment to recognize the mobile phone’s platform using its built-in “Phone Wizard”. After synchronization, users may then proceed to manage their calendar, phonebook, messages, memos, call history, wallpapers, ringtones, events, etc. The availability of the aforementioned data depends on the features provided by the user’s mobile phone. In addition to these, BitPim provides data security by its read-only option in the program settings. This feature allows users to view their data without manipulating or writing anything on the mobile phone’s system.
BitPim features a simple user interface that has three main parts. The first part contains the control buttons that execute actions within the program. This section contains buttons used to export phone data, import data from the computer to the phone, add user profile, and look for phone model. The next part contains the directory of phone features that is connected using BitPim. The last part displays all data contained in the mobile phone feature selected by the user.
