OrphansRemover is a system utility developed by Digital Architects and released on February 2006. This program is a system cleaner. It searches for .LNK files that correspond to broken shortcuts and deletes it. This program searches through the entire system, paying particular attention to specific folders including the Recent Documents, Start Menu, and Program Files folder. Users may also set the search location to a custom folder. Search results are presented as a list. Users may then choose to delete one, some, or all of the found broken shortcuts. This results in a more optimized system performance. OrphansRemover also features command line support.
OrphansRemover features a simple Windows-based user interface. The upper left box provides the user a check box list of specific folders where the program may search for broken shortcuts. Other folders aside from those mentioned are Favorites, History, Temp directory, and Application Data. The upper right box features a check box selection of kinds of files that broken shortcuts may connect to. These include Files on removable disks, on a network, on CD-ROM drives, and on RAM disks. The user may also input a specific search folder through the input box labeled as User-defined search folder. Search results are shown below the input box with corresponding tick boxes to select which to delete and which to retain. A Start Scan button at the bottom initializes the scan process. Delete Orphans button enables users to delete ticked orphans.
