Windows 7 Start Orb Changer is an application that allows users to change how their desktop looks, particularly the Start button. The modification can be done in four different ways including the Context menu, Drag and Drop functionality, Change button, and the Command Line. The software automatically resizes the orb that can be changed in two ways: Memory Patching and Resource Editing. With Memory Patching, modifications are done in the memory so there are no prompts or alerts. With Resource editing, the modifications are done by working on the %windir%\explorer.exe file.
Windows 7 Start Orb Changer features a clean and easy to use interface. It offers two different modes that cater to novice and advanced users. The interface displays how the current start orb looks like when inactive, hovered over, and selected. On the right side is an orb, which when selected, links to the sample orbs folder. Once the user has selected a particular orb, the screen will freeze for a while and the taskbar will disappear. Once the taskbar has reappeared, it will display the new Start Orb. If the selected orb does not look as expected, the user can revert to the original orb by clicking on the folder icon on the right side of the main interface. If the user needs to change the look again, the original look can be restored.
