SopCast is a P2PTV application developed by SopCast. SoP is an abbreviated term for Streaming over P2P. SopCast is a Streaming Direct Broadcasting System, which is based on P2P technology. This application is used for redistributing video streams in real time. It can broadcast both audio and video, listen to radio via the Internet and watch the video online. Aside from watching, listening and broadcasting media files, the program can also be used for recordings clips while it is being played.
Sopcast supports various file formats including ASF, RMVB, WMV and RM. Using this program doesn’t require a registered account. If you prefer not to register with Sopcast, you can still use it by signing in as anonymous. The program contains 3 main sections – Address Area, Tabs Area and Option Area. The Address Area contains channels viewing history, which is displayed in the drop-down box. You can view channels by putting the sop address or the channel id onto the Address Area. The Tabs Area contains VoD Channels, Home, Live Channels, FAQ and MyServer tabs. Other configurations like Apply, Subscribe, Logout and Option buttons are listed on the Options Area.
Sopcast features NAT traversal and Firewall technology allowing it to pass up to 90% P2P barriers. It also has support for loop file playing and authentication for both viewers and broadcasters. To help viewers choose the right channel, the program has real time monitoring of broadcasting source quality.
