Doom, the Roguelike is a text-based roguelike game developed by the company ChaosForge. It is an ASCII role-playing game version of the classic game, Doom, wherein the player takes on the role of a lone survivor. The character’s squad met their death while investigating inconsistencies on the Phobos moonbase. The object of the game is for the player to put a stop to the source of destruction in the moonbase complex. In order to do this, the player must go deeper into the base and eliminate as many demons as possible. The player can acquire various weapons including the seven original pieces from Doom. Apart from weapons, the player can also collect other useful items such as medpacks and body armor.
In Doom, the Roguelike, players can enhance their characters by gaining levels. There is a wide selection of traits that can upgrade a character’s skill set. Players can choose among Marine, Scout, and Technician rogue classes to determine the fundamental traits of their respective characters. The game also offers 30 randomly generated levels as well as high score and permadeath lists. In true roguelike fashion, every demon and weapon is rendered in ASCII format, including blood spatter and dead bodies.
