MPEG Streamclip 1.2

Square 5’s MPEG Streamclip is a video player that can also do advanced video editing and conversion. This free program comes in a small download file but it has professional features that are at par with commercial alternatives. It plays all popular media formats such as VOB, MPEG-4, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, AVI, QuickTime, DivX, Xvid, and others.

The key feature of this program is its ability to do lossless editing and conversion of video files. It can even open and convert uncompressed HD video footages from camcorders that use proprietary formats like the special .m2ts AVCHD files from Canon products. Furthermore, MPEG Streamclip does its conversion in the broadcast-standard YUV color space, which means it preserves the original color fidelity of the source video.

As for editing, this application has all the necessary tools for splitting/joining video files, audio editing, watermarking, and color correction. It is compatible with time code breaks and can work with multiple large video file streams (bigger than 4 gigabytes each). Copy/Cut/Paste commands are available for a faster workflow.  Lastly, Streamclip can demix and mix MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 files for easy burning to DVDs.
