Dracula: Origin is a Gothic point-and-click adventure game developed by the company, Frogwares. The game’s story is based on Bram Stoker’s Dracula and revolves around the character, Professor Van Helsing. One of his former students, Johnathan Harker, has become captive to Dracula’s spell. Dracula has his eye on Harker’s fiancée, Mina Murray because she reminds him of the love of his life, who had taken her own life to elude being betrothed to him. His bitterness toward her death and has sunk deeper and deeper into evil deeds and rituals in order to spread his misery to the rest of humanity. Dracula discovers an ancient manuscript that tells of a bizarre ritual that is supposed to bring souls back from the dead. To Johnathan’s chagrin, Dracula has chosen his fiancée as the body that will host the spirit of his dead ladylove.
The player takes on the role of Van Helsing and uses the point-and-click method to collect artifacts and solve puzzles. In order for the player to figure his/her way through the game, s/he must interact with a variety of characters. The player must explore each scene thoroughly to find items that can be used later on to build contraptions that will be needed to access certain things like a door or safe. Apart from the hidden object games, there are logic-based puzzles and brain twisters that players can play at any time during the game.
