Cabela’s African Safari is a simulation game that puts players in the role of a hunter in the African safari. There are several kinds of animals to hunt including elephants, crocodiles, lions, cheetahs, and many others. The game features five countries in Africa, such as Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe. In each location, players get to hunt animals that are commonly seen in that particular area. Players also get to use different rifles and shotguns. Some weapons are to be used with a particular animal. After hunting all the animals in one location, players get to move on to the next. Trophies are won for each location finished.
The game features seven different game modes. The first four game modes are for single player mode (Instant Hunt, Safari Hunt, Open Safari, and Big Five), while the last three game modes is for multiplayer mode (Hot Seat, Tournament, and Wing Shooting Practice).
