Microsoft Works Calendar is a utility included in Microsoft Works, an office suite developed by Microsoft Corporation. In addition to the calendar application, the Works office suite included a database management system, a word processor, a spreadsheet program, and a dictionary. The calendar application has the following functions:
• Store appointments and remind users of anniversaries, birthdays, business meetings, and other important events
• Import and export iCalendar files
• Integrate with the Windows Address Book and Windows Contacts
• Synchronize contacts and calendar information with portable devices
• Create printouts of calendars
This application has an easy-to-use interface that helps users make their personal calendars quickly. The program can be accessed by selecting it from the Programs tab. To begin calendar creation, users can select how they want to view their calendar from the icons listed as the top left of the calendar: Monthly, Weekly, or Daily. The default setting is Monthly. Users can then fill in their schedule details by right-clicking on a day and selecting New Appointment. The event title, category, time, and location may then be typed. If the schedule is a recurring event, such as a weekly meeting, users can select “Make this appointment repeat” and specify whether it is to be done on a yearly, monthly, weekly, or daily basis. When done, users can click on the OK button to save their scheduled appointments.
The Works office suite has been discontinued; Microsoft’s Calendar feature has been integrated with Microsoft Outlook.
