Song Surgeon is a program used for slowing down music. This is done in order for users to hear the elements of a song and how these are played. This can be used by musicians when learning how to play the parts of a song or an entire song. Another key feature of the program is transposing songs to another key in order to change the pitch. Tempo of songs can be changed as well. Songs and audio files can be imported to the application from a CD. The program is also capable of converting audio files into different formats, such as AIFF, WAV, WMA, AAC, and MP3.

The program has a simple interface that is divided into different sections. Task and command buttons are located at the upper portion of the window. These buttons include Save, Export, Rip, Float, and Open. Other tools, such as Float, Marker, EQ, Music Pad, and Sniffer, are also located at the upper portion of the window. When a song is loaded into the program, users can see the waveform on the main window. A section of the song can be highlighted in order to change the tempo or pitch. Controls for the audio can be found at the bottom part of the main window.
