Resident Evil 5 is an action video game released by CAPCOM in 2009. This video game is the seventh installment of CAPCOM’s Resident Evil series. Resident Evil 5 features third-person shooter gameplay, a type of 3D shooting game where the player-character is visible on screen. Third person shooter games features combat using firearms or other long-ranged weapons, and occasional melee attacks. Resident Evil 5 also features a Horror-Survival type of game play, where players must survive and fight their way against hordes of hostile enemies and bosses often depicted as creatures like zombies or monsters, in order to complete the game’s story.
In Resident Evil 5, the player takes control of either Sheva Alomar or Chris Redfield, two operatives from an organization called the BSAA or Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance. The characters are given an assignment to check a potential bioterrorist hazard in Kijuju, found in the African desert. Resident Evil 5’s main antagonists include Excella Gionne, a character involved in pharmaceutical company distributing the suspected biochemical weapons, and Albert Wesker, who returns from the previous Resident Evil games. The characters use a variety of weapons such as pistols, submachine guns, and assault rifles to fight humanoid enemies called “Majini”. Majini means “evil spirit” in Swahili, an African language. Majini are humans infected by a bio-chemical weapon. They lurk in the shadows and wait for the player to get near them. Majini can also attack the player in mobs using melee weapons and firearms.
Resident Evil 5 features a cooperative story mission where two players can control Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar. This type of game play allows both characters to revive their companion in case one of them is in critical health. The game also features an online multiplayer mode that allows remote players to participate in the game.
