Media Player Classic, sometimes abbreviated to MPC, is a light, open-source, no-frills, and easy to use media player. It was released in May 2003. It plays most media types available. The user interface of the program is a throwback to the classic media payer found in earlier versions of the Windows operating system. It is lightweight and runs on almost any computer with little to no slowdown. Its user interface offers a variety of customization options, ranging from small icon customization to a full on overhaul using skins. The player has been translated in to 33 different languages by independent coders all over the world. It is an alternative player for those user who wish to have something lightweight, free, and customizable. It is written in C++ and supports GPU assisted decoding.
The player supports a large variety of video file types ranging from the common to the lesser known types. Supported file types include the usual *.avi, *.mpg, *.mp4, *.flv, *.3gp, and *.mkv. It also supports more uncommon file types such as *.vro, *.h264, *.swf and *.m2p. Audio files are supported as well. Supported file types range from *.wav, *.mp3, *.ogg, *.wma, *.aiff, *.aa3, among others. Customization for subtitles is also available. Video delay can also be adjusted to sync properly with subtitles.
