Trillian is a multi-protocol chat client that was initially released in July 2000. The program supports popular instant messaging services, such as Yahoo! Messenger, Skype, ICQ, AIM, and others. Aside from that, it can also connect to social networking websites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. With the application, users can easily connect with all their contacts on different networks by signing in to their Trillian account. The contacts are differentiated by color (according to IM service) on the Trillian Contacts list.
All News feeds on Facebook and Twitter can be seen on the program’s interface. Users can create updates and write down comments within the window, too. Users can send and receive files easily using Trillian’s drag and drop feature. Links and photos shared on the chat window are automatically expanded for quick viewing. The Trillian software has a built in encryption technology called SecureIM. This ensures that messages passed from user-to-user are always encrypted. SecureIM uses 128-bit Blowfish encryption.
Additional features of the program are:
Foursquare with GPS support
Hidden smileys
Instant lookup
Emotiblips (video emoticons)
Metacontact
Users can customize the look of the program by choosing from a number of skins. There is also an option to view the program in full or compact mode.
