Barnes & Noble Desktop Reader program, also called Nook, is e-reader software for PCs. The application comes with some classic books in e-format. Some of the titles included with the software are Pride and Prejudice, Dracula, and Little Women. Users must have a Barnes & Noble account in order to user the application.
Users can download free books or buy books from the Barnes & Noble online store by clicking on the ‘shop’ button located at the left panel of the window. Clicking on the button does not open the online store in the program’s window. Instead, the Barnes & Noble website will be opened in a web browser window. There are over 2.5 million titles available from the online shop. All purchased books can be viewed in ‘my library’. Electronic reading materials are categorized (eBooks, eMagazines, and eNewspapers). With the Barnes & Noble Desktop Reader, users can highlight words and passages, add bookmarks, and type in notes. The font and margin size of the e-books can also be changed. In addition, users can look for words on Wikipedia.
The Barnes & Noble Desktop reader application is also available for other devices, such as iPad, iPhone, Android, and Mac.
