Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 is a strategic, real time game which is the second installment to Command & Conquer: Red Alert. This program was released on October 2000. Its setting is in the 1970s right where the first game ended. Like the first game, it features two playable factions—the Soviets and the Allies. It is available in single player campaign and multiplayer mode. However, instead of following a progressive timeline, the single player campaign mode features an alternate-ending mode.
Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 features two story lines that mirror the factions that the player chooses to identify with. The Allied Forces story line starts in New York led by Special Agent Tanya. The Soviet forces storyline opens with Premier Alexander Romanov briefing the player as to the Soviet invasion starting with the destruction of the Pentagon in Washington, DC. Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 gameplay is economy based. Players may collect money or resources through gathering of ores using Miner trucks, capture Oil derricks that provide more money for less effort, and sell buildings to acquire money. Crates that litter the map can also be sold for money. Collected money can be used to build infrastructure and units, or for repairs. However, the player can start building without having the full cost available but construction will pause when the faction runs out of money. Nonetheless, construction resumes once the player collects more money.
