Jewel Quest is a tile matching game released in 2004. The game is set in a Mayan environment. The user plays as an explorer who must beat the puzzles in order to complete the storyline. After beating each level, a part of the story is told through journal entries. In the game, players must horizontally or vertically match tile pieces that are laid out on a grid. This can be done by swapping the pieces. There are gold nuggets, diamonds, emeralds, and skulls. The pieces are removed from the grid when three or more of the same kind is matched. When pieces are removed, the tiles underneath them turn to gold. The objective of the player is to turn all of the tiles in the level to gold before the time is up. If the player does not turn all the tiles to gold before time runs out, the game is over and the player loses a life.
As the level get higher, the game gets more difficult. More types of jewels appear on higher levels, and this can make creating matches more difficult. The shape of the grid also changes with each level. There are 180 levels to play in the game and 36 different grids available. Certain levels also contain artifacts that the player can collect.
