The Lion King is a computer game based on the film with the same name. It follows the story of Simba, a young lion about to become the king of the Pride Lands. However, his father, Mufasa, is killed by Scar, Simba’s uncle, and claims the throne as his. Simba must journey, as a young cub and as an adult, to stop Scar from destroying the Pride Lands.
The game is a side-scroller platforming game. Simba goes from one platform to another by leaping, running, and climbing. One level, called the "Stampede" has the character running forward while evading widebeests. There are two bars in the game - a roar meter and a health bar. When the roar meter is fully charged, the roar is more effective. When the health bar decreases to zero, Simba loses a life. When all of Simba's lives are lost, the game is over. The number of Simba's lives is displayed at lower left corner of the screen.
The player controls Simba first as a cub, and next as an adult during the game. As a cub, Simba can jump, roll, and roar. Rolling is used to dodge attacks. As an adult, Simba can also maul and slash enemies. In addition, the roar is more powerful.
The Lion King has 2 bonus levels. In these levels, players can also control Timon and Pumbaa.
