Need for Speed: Shift is a simulation and racing game that is the 13th title in the Need for Speed series of games. It was released in 2009. The aim of the game is for players to unlock and participate in the NFS World Tour. 280 stars must be collected in order for them to enter the competition. Stars and in-game money can be acquired by participating and winning races. Other races can also be unlocked along the way.
Need for Speed: Shift features over 60 types of cars. These are categorized in for tiers: average cars, performance cars, supercars, and hypercars. In addition to customizing the appearance of the car, its performance can be tweaked, too. Performance settings include tires, brakes, gears, aerodynamics, and more. There are a total of 19 race tracks in the game, and 12 race modes available.

Users can play the game in cockpit camera view. This gives the player a realistic driving experience while controlling the cars that are featured in the game.
