Prison Tycoon 4: Supermax is a simulation game that was first released in 2008. It is the fourth release in the Prison Tycoon installment of games. In the game, players must build and manage a high security prison. The player assumes the role of the prison warden who must keep the peace within the prison walls.

First, players must build prison facilities to accommodate the needs of the prisoners. Safety and security must be kept in mind when building. The next step is to fill the prison with rehabilitation experts and security guards. There are several employees to choose from, each having different abilities and skills. It is up to the player to decide which one to hire for the prison. These decisions will affect the overall outcome of the game. The main goal is to manage the prison in a balanced manner. Being too strict may result in riots and gang fights, while being too lax may result in prisoners escaping. One of the additions in the game is the Restricted Access Quarters. This area is reserved for prisoners who have the worst behavior. They are required to stay in the quarters alone and get only an hour a day for activities.

Aside from managing the prison, players must also find ways to increase profit. This can be done by building more prison facilities, such as factories, so that prisoners can be employed and the player will get profit in return.
