Resident Evil 4 is an action, survival-horror video game developed and released by CAPCOM in 2005. This game is the sixth installment of CAPCOM’s Resident Evil series. The game retains its traditional third-person shooter format like in the previous games. In Resident Evil 4, the player’s main game objective is to survive by fighting hordes of hostile enemies by using a variety of ranged weapons. The Third-Person game play allows the player to view the whole character in a 3D environment.
Resident Evil 4 introduces the character Leon S. Kennedy, a government special agent tasked to rescue Ashley Graham, the daughter of the President of the United States. Ashley Graham was kidnapped by an unknown cult, which brought her to a rural village in Europe. The character utilizes a variety of firearms, such as pistols, submachine guns, shotguns, and rifles to subdue the enemy. Resident Evil 4’s main enemies are parasite-infected humans called “Los Ganados” which attack the player with both melee and projectile weapons.
Resident Evil 4 features more player-environment interactivity. In this game, players may utilize several environmental elements and perform actions such as jumping out of windows and ledges or kicking ladders and dodging. These actions can affect the in-game situation. In addition, the game features “quick time events” that require the player to press a set of buttons in order for the character to perform a task successfully. This may involve dodging attacks or breaking free from chokeholds. Resident Evil 4 also introduces stylized combat. This feature allows the player to disarm or disable enemies by shooting either their arms or their legs. Resident Evil 4 has a single player story mode.
