Ribbon Hero is a video game and training tool that was developed by Microsoft Office Labs to help users make the most out of the ribbon interface of different Microsoft programs, such as OneNote, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft PowerPoint. The game helps users with both 2007 and 2010 editions of the said programs.
The game features Clippy, the paperclip tutor that can be seen in Microsoft Office programs from 1997 up to 2003. In the game, Clippy is in need of a part-time job and players must help him create an outstanding resume. Before he even gets the chance to create one, he is transported to different periods through a time machine. Players get to visit different times in history including the Renaissance, Ancient Greece, Ancient Egypt, the Middle Ages, and eventually, the future.
In each time period, players are asked to do several tasks, such as adding pictures and graphs, formatting files and documents, and other popular tasks that are typically done in Microsoft Office programs. Finishing the goals will help users familiarize themselves with the ribbon interface of the different programs. After finishing a level, the player can then move on to the next and learn another task for a different program.
